I - Shear Project at Shear Outback

In 2010 search engine giant Google released new research that suggested over 75% of all tourists would be using social networking sites to make critical travel decisions such as where to stay, where to eat and what to see when they visit our town.  As social networking starts to replace the traditional ways of communicating with our visitors, Shear Outback are keeping right up to date with the launch of the I - Shear Project.
The Project, funded by Arts NSW, will see Shear Outback develop the museums’ exhibitions utilising digital technology, social networking and visitor feedback to engage with the ever changing needs of the visitor. “ It is so important to keep up with the communication needs of our visitors. Our own statistics suggest that over 12% of our website visitors are using portable devices to access information on Shear Outback , so it is very important that we meet the visitor on the website and using social media.’ Said Sandra Ireson, I -Shear Project Coordinator.
“We know that for many people, social networking such as facebook and twitter can be daunting.  Shear Outback helps to tell the story of shearers and people on the land and the more people talking about Shear Outback on social media helps promote our town and our agricultural industry. The I-Shear project will also offer the community the opportunity to learn how to use social networking, with the first workshop to be held in November” added Mrs Ireson.
The curatorial and gallery redevelopment aspects of the project are being coordinated by Kim Biggs and the social media and digital exhibition will be developed by Sandra Ireson.

The Social Media workshop will be held on Tuesday 29 November 2011
9.30am to 12.30pm at the Hay Library meeting room. Bookings essential so please contact Sandra Ireson I - Shear Project Coordinator
